“Tantrum Instantly became an extension of our marketing department – winkling out ingenious creative solutions to problems we hadn’t yet realised were there” Rich Robinson Head of Creative M&S We worked directly with M&S Food and their fabulous in-house agency to deliver 75 idents over 3 seasons for their ITV show “Cooking With the Stars”, helping them to develop and bring the creative to life. Our team along with Director Stephen Pipe at the helm (formerly a creative himself) focussed on a humorous treatment that would appeal to the show’s and M&S demographic. Preparation…preparation….preparation….was the key to delivering so much material from a 3 day shoot and could only be achieved with close and constant collaboration. Once we had our cast we introduced rehearsals into pre-production to make sure that fluffed lines or comedic direction were not left for “on the day”. M&S food was at the centre as always but we knew that it being sponsorship meant the performances would take a lions share of the action, with the all important product shots ending and supporting these. We discussed in great detail how the product would be shot – working to a brief of “abundance” and making sure that other products surrounding the hero were complimentary and always hinting at a meal about to be made. Flexibility and agility were essential as the brief changed throughout pre-production due to the actual outcomes of the show competition. When the day arrived we felt completely confident what we were going to get in-camera and so were able to focus on getting excellent performances and adding some beautiful light to the products. M&S Food were over the moon with the results and we also worked with them on a stand-alone commercial for their collaboration with professor Tim Spector and his Gut Health Shots.
