“A truly beautiful and genuinely touching piece of work that celebrates womankind…tantrum’s Amanda Blue has filmed the protagonist with sublime skill.” (David Reviews – 5 stars)

tantrum director Amanda Blue has delivered a stunning portrayal of everyday mothers beauty in the latest Dove execution for the US and Canada.

The film is based on and features the words of a poem, ‘A Mothers Body’, by English beat poet Hollie McNish.  The poem was adapted for the screen.

The film captures over the course of a day how a mother uses her body to love, tend and care for her children – it is both extraordinary and life affirming. The subtle message is an important one, suggesting that we appreciate just how magical a mother’s body is and what it enables women to do – by creating and sustaining a whole new generation. This is a film that notices the everyday details of motherhood whilst simultaneously celebrating a woman’s body for all its authentic beauty. Dove is synonymous with skin care and real women. So it is hard to imagine a more perfect film for the brand.

On a personal note we’re very proud of what Amanda and the team have achieved.

“Huge props to director Richard Tindall and production company Tantrum for their achievement in the face of almost insurmountable odds. From the casting to the editing to the grading, these beautifully-directed pieces prove just what can be done when you’re up against it.” (David Reviews – 5 stars)

Director Richard Tindall through Production Company tantrum, have delivered a series of highly entertaining and richly cinematic brand idents for TV and satellite broadcaster Viasat.

The re-brand of the Viasat’s leading film channels – TV1000, ACTION TV1000 & PYCCKOE KNHO TV1000 – are being rolled out in 40”, 30”, 20” & 10” executions for television, satellite and online audiences across Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Russia and parts of the USA from 29 April 2014.

The brief was to create authentic film scenes and portray Viasat as the film-maker’s choice of channel.  ‘Day’ & ‘night’ films were created using different film genres to represent the broad range of movies played across the three channels – TV1000 (Hollywood), Action TV1000 (Action) & Pycckoe Knho TV1000 (Russian cinema).  The films were shot over 3 days in LA – Venice Beach, Griffiths Park and the desert in Palmdale.

The shoot did not all go according to plan however. On a project with huge ambition but a comparatively modest budget it was only achieved against the odds. On day 2 of a tight 3 day shoot filming 2 completely different film genre executions a day, the shoot almost hit a wall as LA was battered by a freak storm turning the Hollywood Hills where they were filming into a flood scene. It was the worst storm in 3 years – flash floods and dangerous electrical lightening strikes – more rain fell in 1 day than in the whole previous rain year. With no rain insurance the decision was made to prepare for the worst and shoot through it.  Despite the conditions the team delivered on brief and changed the creative to get the films in the can.  The results are some what astonishing given the challenges they met.

But it didn’t stop there when on the third and final day of filming out in the desert, the set was ordered to be shut down by the authorities only hours from wrap. Once again the team decided not to lie down and shot the final few hours in under 30minutes to get it all in the can.

The films are being entered into Cannes Lion’s in the ‘Broadcast Sponsorship’ category and also ‘Achievement in Production’. No surprise there!

Rod visited New York and Barcelona before heading back to London to meet three of the world’s finest interactive artists commissioned by Google to each create one, all-new installation in the DevArt section of the Digital Revolution exhibition coming to the Barbican this year.  The result of which was three intimate films which convey their passion for the world of code they inhabit and from which their creations spring to life.  DevArt is art made with code where technology is the canvas and code the raw materials. In New York Zach Lieberman creates installations and performances investigating audiovisual expression and new forms of drawing while Karsten Schmidt is a computational designer based in London who uses custom built software to help bridge the technological and social gaps between different creative fields.  To the layperson it may sound all a little over our heads but Rod’s films work beautifully to open this world to all and show just how mind-bogglingly fascinating this new type of art really is.

The Digital Revolution exhibition opens in July 2014 at the Barbican before touring the world.
